People with psoriasis are often judged by their skin. It can make living with the disease embarrassing, isolating and even devastating.

19 brave people with psoriasis came from around the world with a common goal – for people to see them beyond their skin. They wanted to tell the truth, the Naked Truth, about what it’s like to live with psoriasis.

Each person dared to bare their skin and to expose themselves to Ralf Tooten’s watchful camera lens. The result is Psoriasis: The Naked Truth, a series of intimate and inspiring portraits that reveal the challenges and triumphs of living with psoriasis.   

About Ralf Tooten

Ralf Tooten, a widely acclaimed photographer lives and works in Hamburg and Bangkok.   Trained as an architectural photographer, Ralf realised that he was “fascinated by the aesthetics of visual encounters and the personal radiance of human beings” and gravitated towards portrait photography.

Ralf takes on a range of assignments ranging from corporate to the artistic.  From 1998 to 2002, Ralf produced "Eyes of Wisdom", a critically acclaimed portrait series of spiritual leaders from around the globe and in 2008 he published "A.W.C.",  an impressive serial of faces of the Asian worker.  Ralf also takes on assignments including annual reports, CD covers, and portraits for various magazines and periodicals.

He has received several awards for his photography including the Fifth Polaroid Fine Arts Award in London, UK in 1996 and the distinguished Hasselblad Master Award in Goteborg, Sweden in 2003.
